How’s my coding?

I’ve noticed that certain portions of the site—particularly the comments section at the bottom of individual entries, the font size and type, and the navigation bar on the main page—look wrong on certain browsers. In the case of the navigation bar, the dotted line goes past the navigation margin into the post; in the comments section, the text box goes outside of the gray container.

Has anyone noticed these problems (or anything else)? If so, could you please let me know (you can post it here or email me), along with the browser you’re using and what version? You can find that out by choosing the “Help” tab on the File menu, and then choosing “About Internet Explorer” or “About Firefox” or whatever browser you’re using.

  1. Well, your stuff looks pretty good in both Firefox 1.5.0.4 and IE 7 b2 (XP). Of course, Firefox renders perfectly and IE has its usual problem properly rendering vertical dashed or dotted borders while scrolling. I can’t believe they didn’t fix this for 7. The only thing I notice with IE is your “On the Side” text is mashed up right below the top border, so basically no padding going on there.

As for functionality, your comment post still doesn’t show me the comment on the page after submission. I have to reload the page. I thought you had that fixed at one point, but it has been broken again for a while. That’s in Firefox, so we’ll see what IE 7 does right now…

  2. …hey, IE 7 likes it. So let’s see if it still broke for Firefox…

  3. …nope, works in both now. Did you fix since the last time I commented??? 🙂

  4. Okay, so when I posted on your Mignola post, Firefox didn’t show me the comment when it reloaded…

  5. Yeah. Weird. I’m not quite sure what’s going on. It seems to be inconsistent, which is the hardest thing to figure out…

  6. Okay, what may be happening is that Firefox is refreshing the page before the site has finished processing the comment…

  7. That’s probably it and it is probably the case for both browsers. MT might be multi-threaded in that it spawns another thread to process the comment and the original thread serves up the response page.

Most folks seem to know their comment was submitted, so you aren’t getting dupes. Although, I did do that last week with my undead monkey comment, but that was because I got an error from MT on the response, so I thought it didn’t take it and then tried again, got another message I had to wait a minute or two and then posted it again. This resulted in two comments (which you helpfully deleted the dupe) and I probably should have realized that’s why I had to wait.

Just migrate to WP already! 😉
