On the environment

This editorial perfectly articulates my position on man-made climate change.

An Inconvenient Question

The write creates an analogy between smoking and man-made climate change. The tobacco industry successfully suppressed or cast doubt on evidence that smoking caused cancer for years. If you’d read a report of such evidence in the 1960s, would you have kept smoking–a luxury habit–at the risk of dying of lung cancer later?

Of course, the answer is very often yes, for reasons related to the nature of the human brain. The question is whether humanity has enough imagination and willpower to overcome these inherent mental and emotional obstacles.

On the same topic, here’s a great guide to the candidates’ positions and records on environmental issues.

  1. Feh… we’ll be dead when this stuff really matters… 😉

  2. Well some of us have kids, my friend, and I’d kinda’ like them to avoid a Waterworld. I don’t need my progeny converting their p!ss to drinking water.

Oh, just throw some Kool Aid mix in with the
p!ss and it will taste fine.

  4. So that’s how you make Ecto-Cooler!!!

    Will Kevin Costner be there……?

  6. “Well some of us have kids, my friend, and I?d kinda? like them to avoid a Waterworld. I don?t need my progeny converting their p!ss to drinking water.”

They’ll mutate to have vagina gills on their necks, duh! That way they can find the map for the one place of dry land on the Earth and defeat the smokers.

  7. @Ed: C’mon, your son is going to cure what Gore cannot and, boom! Easy button done. Either that or all the robots on Earth will vent their gas all at once and push the planet’s orbit far enough out to set things right again…

  8. @Sean – Regarding Colin, you might be right. Keep in mind – he’s 4. So this morning, he asks for a straw and one for Aria. The box is 100 deep and I opened it yesterday. He asks how many straws are in the box. I answered “Normally 100 but we took 2 out yesterday.” He replies – almost instantly – “So there’s 96 left.” Subtraction by a 4 Year Old!?!?!

This comes after I witnessed Aria (2) count to 100 last night all by herself.

I’ve got to start rotting their brains with TV, Pop-Rocks and Coke. It’s only a matter of time before they turn on me.

  9. Yup, exactly the kind of thing I was thinking… and of course, I mean Aria is just as likely too, just haven’t seen that side of her yet for myself — after all, I can goad her into saying I am pretty instead of handsome (I know she’s just going along with me on that one) — and that count to a Benny is proof!
